Case study

Incorrect tax code assigned to an employee

An employee of the claimant did not pay enough tax, due to the policyholder using an incorrect tax code. As the error had been made by a professional and was not the fault of the individual employee, HMRC refused to pursue the individual directly and the claimant was forced to pay the unpaid tax which they looked to recover from the policyholder.

Following discussions between the policyholder and the claimant, the claim was eventually settled for £3,564.26 net of the policyholder’s £250 excess.
