The Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards shine a spotlight on worthy individuals and organisations making a difference every single day.
Hosting for the second year in a row, actress and ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society, Sally Lindsay, joined finalists and winners at the Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards on Friday 14th March at the Grand Hotel in Birmingham.
As we marked the 11th anniversary of the awards, our commitment to ensuring that those who care receive the recognition they deserve was stronger than ever. It was truly an honour to once again celebrate the hard work, dedication, and positive impact that everyone working in the not-for-profit sector is making to people’s lives.
And, as the care industry continues to navigate challenges, such as changes to regulatory requirements and ongoing issues with recruitment and funding, it was a great opportunity to acknowledge the innovation and resilience of those within the sector.
Watch highlights from the event, showcasing the inspirational work being done in the not-for-profit sector.
Our passion for the Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards stems from our heartfelt belief in putting people first. We take pride in championing the individuals and organisations and celebrating the fantastic work they’re doing.
Here are just some of the amazing winners’ stories:
Leadership Winner – Jill Davies, DHU Healthcare CIC
As the Palliative Care Clinical Lead for Derbyshire Health United (DHU), Jill Davies leads by example. Having worked in palliative care for 30 years, she has worked tirelessly to establish the Palliative Care Urgent Response Service (PCURS) for adults whose wish is to remain at home, and she has since extended the service for children. Jill’s enthusiasm, dedication, and willingness to roll up her sleeves has been infectious. Her compassion for patients, families and her colleagues has underpinned her commitment to establish a high-quality service that meets the needs of patients and families to be cared for effectively at home.
Dementia Care Winner – Alzheimer Cafe Isle of Wight at Parklands
Alzheimer Cafe welcomes anyone affected by dementia, and in 2024 the team opened the Parklands Dementia Resource Centre. The centre invites people living with dementia, along with their families, friends, and carers, to join for informal education about dementia, as well as a chance to socialise and take part in a programme of daily activities. It’s the first and only hub on the Isle of Wight where people can get the support they need five days a week, and it’s fast become a vital service for those living on the island affected by dementia.
Making a Difference Winner – Edward Dean, Anxious Minds
Edward Dean, CEO of Anxious Minds, has made significant contributions to the mental health landscape in the North East. Under his leadership, Anxious Minds has become a vital lifeline for the community, supporting over 150 individuals each week including veterans, abuse survivors, and young people. Edward's commitment to providing immediate, accessible mental health services, even in the face of funding shortages and increasing demand, exemplifies his resilience and determination, and he is a beacon of hope and inspiration for many.
