After completing her Law degree at Leicester University, Emma began her tax law journey by joining HMRC as a direct graduate entrant in 2001. She trained for 8 years as a full HMRC Inspector before joining a fee protection insurer and taking on the role as Head of Tax and VAT Consultancy. After 13 years in fee protection in various roles, Emma rejoined HMRC as a Fraud Investigator within HMRC’s Fraud Investigation Service.
After over 3 years in HMRC, Emma joined Markel in November 2025 as Tax Claims Team Leader bringing her knowledge and experience of HMRC enquiries and fee protection matters to the business.
