Markel Law
Associate
Tom is an Associate Solicitor in the Casualty Team at Markel Law, having joined from Clyde and Co in September 2025.
Qualifying as a solicitor in 2016, Tom has extensive experience of both claimant and defendant personal injury litigation. He has acted for international insurers, a specialist church and charity insurer, schools, public bodies and self-insured corporations.
He is particularly experienced in representing SEN schools, including those with a residential offering. He has a deep understanding of the difficulties that are encountered by such institutions and their staff in what are often sensitive and highly unpredictable environments. He also has experience of assisting on high value and complex matters, including claims where there are complex causation issues such as those relating to bodily distress disorder and immobility.
Tom has previously secured a discontinuance on a matter pleaded at £250,000. This was following the disclosure of social media evidence which contradicted the pleaded injuries. He has also successfully appealed a case management order, which resulted in an unless order being made against the Claimant, and their claim (pleaded, albeit very optimistically, at over £1 million) ultimately being struck out.
Having previously also had experience of housing disrepair claims, Tom has often been instructed to act in personal injury and nuisance claims for housing associations. One of these was successfully defended at trial, with it being found that the housing association did not have notice of the disrepair alleged to have caused the injury.
