Nejat is a shipping, trade and marine insurance disputes specialist with more than 15 years' experience advising clients across London, Dubai and Qatar. His practice focuses on complex dry shipping, charterparty, contract of affreightment, cargo, commodity and trade finance disputes, regularly acting in LMAA and other international arbitrations, High Court proceedings and multi-jurisdictional matters.
He works closely with shipowners, charterers, traders, insurers and financial institutions, helping clients navigate technically complex disputes, preserve recovery opportunities and develop commercially effective strategies from the outset.

- Acted in a multi-jurisdictional commodity and trade finance dispute involving SIAC arbitration, Singapore court proceedings and UAE enforcement action. Advised on strategy, enforcement risk and settlement negotiations to achieve a commercially effective resolution.
- Instructed in contract of affreightment dispute arising from delayed and unperformed bulk cargo shipments, including allegations of repudiatory breach and related arbitration proceedings. Helped secure a commercial settlement across the connected disputes.
- Acted in an international arbitration concerning the carriage of project cargo under linked booking notes, involving competing claims for detention, demurrage, additional freight and consequential losses. Helped secure a negotiated settlement of the dispute, managing both carrier claims and counterparty exposures.
