Surrounded by members of his claims and legal team, Markel UK’s Richard Napoli was thrilled to pick up the prestigious accolade of Claims Director of the Year at last night’s British Claims Awards.

Richard’s award concluded what proved to be hugely successful night for the UK insurance industry, with a welcome return to face-to-face live events. The awards were held at Leonardo Royal London St Paul’s, and celebrated the best claims teams, people and projects the UK insurance industry has to offer.
Richard’s award recognises his oversight and leadership of Markel UK’s claims functions and its claims portfolio in the UK. In the last 18 months, Richard has overseen the monumental task of settling business interruption (BI) claims for customers quickly throughout the worst of the pandemic. This included implementing a set of customer-focussed strategies which enabled Markel to be among the first in the market to start paying BI claims.
Parallel to this, Richard successfully led the integration of Markel’s in-house law firm, Markel Law, with Markel UK’s insurance claims function. Under his leadership Markel Law has become a profitable legal firm on a rapid growth trajectory.
This award is testament to Richard’s leadership capability, in light of an extremely challenging year, and a reflection of his fantastic team, who continue to set the standard to deliver Markel’s Expect More promise!
