This year’s Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards took place at the Grand Hotel in Birmingham on the Friday the 3rd of March with British broadcasting legend Angela Rippon hosting for a second year. These awards aim to bring light to the efforts of small, non-profit providers who may always get the opportunity to highlight the positive effects they have made on people's lives.
We were honoured to once again be the headline sponsor for another year of extraordinary achievements and great causes. We have witnessed the growth of these awards year on year, along with seeing the extraordinary examples of hard work, dedication and commitment from individuals and organisations across the third sector.
Therefore, Markel takes great pride in having presence from all business areas representing us at the awards. The team revel in the opportunity to attend this event each year with Markel wanting to express their commitment to this sector and the inspiring individuals behind it.
This year’s judges praised all nominee’s instrumental role in solving gaps in the industry by implementing lifesaving and people-first solutions, while maintaining the highest levels of dedication.
The past year’s financial and political climate has had a significant effect on the care industry. Despite these challenges, we were astonished by the commitment all nominees still demonstrated even in such uncertain times. This level of dedication is the foundation of these awards. Whether it be working to investing in staff, diversifying funding, strengthening boards or working with a new partner, the organisations nominated have made significant contributions.
After hearing the winners share their stories with Angela Rippon and our team interacting with guests during the afternoon, it was very clear that the sector's capacity to find innovative methods to support and improve the lives of others all while facing increasing pressure and scarcity of finances was evidence of the highest levels of dedication to the sector.
It was also a pleasure to sponsor the Making a Difference Award, with our partners Towergate sponsoring the End of Life Care Award, Azets sponsoring the Leadership Award and IPSE sponsoring the Development and Innovation Award.
A further highlight from the day was Neil Galjaard, Markel UK’s divisional managing director, introducing a video that we filmed for The Prospects trust, one of last year’s winners, during a Markel volunteer day. The Trust is a meaningful work, skills and training provider for people with additional needs, leaning disabilities or autism, providing work opportunities on their 18-acre organic care farm in Cambridgeshire and their refill greengrocery café in the heart of Ely.
It was a real privilege for Markel and our broker partners to attend the awards and be in the company of so many selfless individuals and we look forward to continuing our dedication to the sector in 2023 and beyond.
