Construction clients insured through Markel have access to this invaluable service provided by our legal partners Clyde & Co. Following contact, the Markel team will take care of the details and ensure a thorough collateral warranty review is undertaken.
Collateral warranty creates a contractual relationship between two parties and will often be used by developers to limit their exposure to allegations of future liability. For Markel’s construction clients, it’s vital that these documents are appropriate, act in the best interests of their business and don’t open clients up to more liability on top of their business responsibilities.
Construction policyholders wanting to use this service should contact Markel by email, or post: Collateral Warranty Review Service Markel (UK) Limited Verity House, 6 Canal Wharf Leeds, LS11 5BQ Please provide the policyholder name, certificate number, contact details, and the copy of the warranty to be reviewed. Clyde & Co will review the submitted warranty and respond within seven working days, although those submitted by post may take longer. The response will detail any requirements and recommendations from a professional indemnity insurance perspective. After receiving the response, any corrective action should be undertaken by the policyholder. Please note: Construction policyholders include design and build, and architects and engineers.

Specified Markel policyholders can access specialist public relations advice from Markel’s PR partner, The Counsel House (TCH). TCH is experienced in providing crisis management assistance to a wide range of organisations from within both the commercial and voluntary sectors.
Certain claims can increase the threat of potentially damaging press coverage for an organisation. Through TCH’s qualified partners and consultants, Markel provides expert guidance and advice on dealing with the media in the event of a crisis. TCH will help manage the situation through the process should this prove necessary.
Specified Markel policyholders needing support from TCH should email or telephone 0345 355 2226 24/7, 365 days a year. Please provide the policyholder name, certificate number, contact details, and brief details of the situation. Once verified as a Markel policyholder, an experienced consultant will make contact within three hours. They will evaluate the situation and provide the necessary guidance and personal support up to a maximum of £25,000, which is in addition to the limit of indemnity. Please note: PR crisis management is available exclusively with the following policy sections: directors and officers, management liability, executive liability, and entity defence. For social welfare, community groups and not-for-profit management liability policyholders, PR crisis management is also available with general liability and professional liability.
