Bryan Robson just lost his IR35 case (sort of). Here’s how

We were recently pleased to share our tax expertise with Contractor UK regarding the high-profile HMRC case involving former Manchester United and England captain, Bryan Robson.

David Harmer, Associate Director at Markel Tax, who specialises in defending taxpayers against HMRC challenges across areas like IR35, self-employed status, and agency legislation, was asked for his views on the case. He notes that Bryan Robson didn’t “win” most of his IR35 case. Instead, the majority of the years assessed by HMRC fell outside IR35’s scope, making the legislation inapplicable.
