The Prospects Trust

The Markel UK marketing team joined others build an accessible pathway for everyone to enjoy at the Prospects Trust new nature reserve.

On 22 September Care Management Matters, one of the leading UK care publications, Neil Galjaard, Divisional Managing Director, and the Markel UK marketing team helped build the first 60 metres of what will be an accessible pathway for everyone to enjoy at the Prospects Trust new nature reserve.

Using our wider volunteer initiative, Markel allocates all employees with three days of volunteering as part of their benefits. As Markel UK supports the care and non-for-profit industry by providing insurance for the sector, we took this opportunity to reach out.

This was to support The Prospects Trust, who are an organisation creating work opportunities for people with additional needs, learning disabilities or autism. The Prospects Trust won the Community Engagement Award at the Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards and their working farm, Snakehall Farm, is where they grow sustainable, seasonal organic products and produce, which is sold in their Refill Greengrocery Cafe in the heart of Ely.

Maz Baker, Executive Director, and Mark Cornell, Farm Manager, took the time to talk the team through the great work that they do, introduce some of the farm’s co-workers and shared how their Markel 3rd Sector Award win has made a positive difference to the Trust’s evolvement.

It was great to actively support the winners of the awards we sponsor and shine a light on the work of small, not-for-profit providers and the positive influence charities like The Prospects Trust have on people’s lives.

About the day, Neil Galjaard, Markel UK’s Divisional Managing Director, said: “A really brilliant day – it was great to be there working as a team, for such a great cause. It was inspiring to see the work the charity does, and I’m delighted we were able to use our charity days to support a Markel UK 3rd Sector Care Awards winner!”

Nominations for the awards close on 21st October 2022, so it’s not too late to nominate an organisation or individual who’s gone above and beyond. You can enter your choice here.
