Sandy has worked in the health and social care sector for most of his professional career. He has significant experience leading teams and worked in the regulation of care as an inspection officer. He developed and ran an international recruitment business for some years, specialising in health and social care. He also spent time seconded to the Scottish Government, supporting key policy developments in areas such as post-diagnostic dementia support and health and social care integration. As CEO, he led a successful medium-sized social care organisation for over eight years. He has also worked as a guest lecturer for Edinburgh Napier University’s Master of Social Work course.

Sandy has an on-going interest in promoting personal outcomes and meaningful co-production. He has also delivered training in organisational culture and values, and how these aspects of business can bring success and keep people safe. He is an encourager and likes to support people and organisations to achieve their potential. He is a board member of a social care umbrella organisation in the Scottish Borders. A rural health centre in Texas has added him as an advisory board member, allowing him to develop knowledge of international healthcare systems, and use his experience to help improve health outcomes in remote and underserved communities. Sandy has an MSc in Community Care and is a registered mental health nurse.
