Marie has been working in safeguarding for over 20 years and has an incredibly unique background and experience. She is one of the only professionals to have mastered all three key statutory agencies – working within Health, Police and Social Care. In addition, Marie has also worked within the private sector as Head of Safeguarding, with profound experience in consulting Insurance clients with their safeguarding risks.
Marie works across all sectors and has experience of working at both operational and strategic levels. She has a thorough understanding of legislation, government strategy and statutory guidance that relate to safeguarding children and adults at risk. Marie is skilled in safeguarding audits & reviews, ‘critical friend’ support, creating and reviewing safeguarding policies and procedures, safeguarding critical incident & crisis management and reputational risk management. She also supports organisations with Inquests, child safeguarding practice reviews, safeguarding adult reviews and domestic homicide reviews.
In addition, Marie creates and delivers safeguarding training for all audiences and provides safeguarding mentoring, coaching and supervision for professionals working within the industry.
Marie has experience of leadership within Adult Social Care, having led multi-disciplinary safeguarding teams and Multi Agency safeguarding Hubs (MASH). She is skilled in overseeing complex safeguarding cases, and co-ordinating safeguarding inquiries, as well as chairing multi-agency safeguarding conferences.
As a Police Officer, Marie specialised in safeguarding within various uniformed and non-uniformed functions – both proactive and reactive, performing at an operational and a strategic level. Her role was to identify, investigate and effectively manage risk of harm to children and adults at risk. Marie is therefore an expert in safeguarding all vulnerable groups from all categories of abuse and neglect.
As a Nurse, working for the NHS, Marie took responsibility for safeguarding - primarily looking after adult patients, but in certain cases also working with children and babies. Marie’s specialisms here extend to culturally sensitive risks such as female genital mutilation (FGM) and the requirements for mandatory reporting within the Health sector.
