Markel Law
Partner and Head of Employment
Craig heads up the firm’s Employment team, having joined Markel Law in January 2022 following 16 years at a niche commercial practice where he also headed up their Employment department.
He qualified as a Solicitor in September 2004 and has specialised in Employment Law ever since.
Since qualification, he gained experiences across all aspects of Employment Law, both contentious and non-contentious and across a variety of sectors including health and social care, education, retail and manufacturing.
Contentious – he has a wealth of experience representing respondents in Employment Tribunal proceedings, whilst also gaining experience representing claimants. His litigation experience includes dealing with most types of dispute including unfair dismissal, discrimination, whistleblowing and TUPE claims.
He regularly advises and drafts settlement agreements for companies for all levels of staff, whilst also negotiating and implementing settlement terms for a number of high-net-worth individuals.
Non-contentious – having obtained his CIPD Level 7 in HR, Craig also has a vast amount of experience in advising company clients, largely SMEs, on day-to-day employment and HR issues, including advice on disciplinary and grievance procedures, contracts of employment, redundancies and TUPE procedures, particularly in relation to duties to inform and consult. He has also undertaken internal grievance procedures on behalf of clients.
During his time working in commercial law firms, Craig has also undertaken a vast amount of corporate support work in the form of due diligence exercise, for multi-million-pound transactions.
