Markel Third Sector Care Awards

This year’s Markel Third Sector Care Awards took place at London’s Marriott hotel on Friday 6 December. This annual event shines a spotlight on so many worthy individuals and organisations that improve the lives of people with tremendous challenges up and down the country.

Over the time we have been supporting this event, we’ve seen the awards grow and highlight incredible examples of hard work, dedication and commitment from individuals and organisations right across the third sector.

As well as sponsoring the event, we were also delighted to once again open up our London office to host the judging panel and nominees during the recent judging day. As always, the standard was extremely high, and continues to prove inspirational every year.

Markel is widely recognised as a key supporter to the care sector through the provision of specialist insurance, legal, tax and consultancy capability. One such capability we provide to the sector is our specialist care consultancy, Janjer, who are there to help across a range of issues such as risk management, inspection preparation and continuity planning. To show our continued support to the care sector, our managing director Neil Galjaard was delighted to announce that all of the day’s finalists will have access to a selection of our care consultancy services for free.

The values behind everything that we do at Markel UK have always been centred on ‘Expect More’. There is no doubt that all of the finalists who were put forward for awards, as well as those in the sector who attended spend their lives encapsulating this philosophy. We were therefore honoured for Markel Law to present the Community Engagement Award, Markel Tax to present the Innovative Quality Outcomes Award, Janjer to present the Campaigning for Change Award and Markel UK to present the Making a Difference Award. Having representatives present and attend from all areas of our business was not only a great way to demonstrate our commitment to the sector but to also show the breadth of services Markel offers to support our care and charity policyholders.

Though planning proves more challenging in today’s uncertain political and financial environment the energy and vision within the Sector does not wavier; whether that is planning to develop new services or working in collaboration with a new partner, diversifying funding, investing in staff, or strengthening Boards.

The sector’s ability to look for diverse ways to support people and improve when faced with increased demand even as budgets tighten is truly inspiring, and this was clearly evident when we heard the winners sharing their stories with Esther Rantzen and speaking with guests during the afternoon.
It was a real privilege for Markel to attend the awards and be in the company of so many selfless individuals and we look forward to continuing our dedication to the sector in 2020.

We are delighted to once again be supporting these awards through headline sponsorship in 2020. If you would be interested in sponsoring any of the categories please contact marketing at
