Markel restructures South region to support growth ambitions

Markel, the SME focused insurance provider, has strengthened its southern regional operation to drive growth and streamline processes for brokers.

Two business development managers join new Southern regional manager, Mark Lowther. Alastair Sambrook arrives from XL Catlin as senior business development manager with responsibility for the London and South East region. Hayley Baker will manage broker development across the South West and South Wales.

‘The new set-up will allow us to fully support our brokers right across the South region,’ said Mark Lowther. ‘Alastair and Hayley bring exceptional levels of experience and contacts to the company and we look forward to continuing and building upon our many successful broker partnerships over the coming months and years.’

Brokers in the South will now be able to refer e-trade and transactional new business to Markel’s dedicated e-trade team, Broker Connect. Established over two years ago to specifically handle large volume transactional enquiries, the team puts a high degree of focus on accuracy and fast turnaround times.

Broker Connect officially began accepting business from the 21st January for the South region under the new structure.

The restructure creates three branch hubs for Markel in the South East: London, Bristol and Croydon. Each will be the first port of call for new business. With transactional business now being handled through Broker Connect, brokers will have greater access to front-line branch underwriters for more complex enquiries.

Sales and marketing director, Nic Brown added ‘Markel already offers market-leading sector propositions to the UK’s broker community that includes complementary legal and tax advice for policyholders. By restructuring our Southern region, we’ve also now put in place the processes and team leads that offer our brokers the support their businesses need to grow successfully.’

The importance of correct cover for care organisations

While it is usually down to the policyholder to choose policy coverage options such as types of cover and limits of indemnity, we have recently seen a trend in the number of local authorities contractually requiring minimum standards of insurance.
